Skin Health - Inside and Out

We all understand the principle of fresh foods for the body. Eating a well balanced diet, including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and avoiding too many refined, denatured and adulterated foods.

Nowadays we wash our fruits and vegetables due to the knowledge we have of pesticides and their possible effect on our body. Yet we continue to cover ourselves in petrochemicals, carcinogens, neurotoxins and skin irritants on a daily basis.

This is not because we don't care about chemical ingredients being absorbed into our body. The fact is, most of us are unaware that many ingredients commonly used in skincare and cosmetics can be harmful.

This is the passion behind MV, providing organic skin nutrients which are safe, effective and uncomplicated. MV utilises the purest essential oils and organic ingredients to deliver both exceptional results and health benefits.

A healthy diet and lifestyle do not always ensure good skin. Often factors out of our control such as hereditary problems, hormonal imbalance, medication and medical procedures can affect the way our skin looks. Also certain lifestyle choices such as the foods we eat and drugs & stimulants we take will ultimately impact on our skin.

The following information will clarify some of these points:

Drugs & stimulants that can affect the appearance of the skin:

Smoking

This robs the body of Vitamin C and Oxygen. Vitamin C is necessary for healthy collagen formation and aids in the natural healing process of the skin. Oxygen is necessary for healthy cell respiration (exchange of wastes and gases). The skin needs to breathe just like our respiratory system. This process also includes excretion of wastes & toxins, a vital function in maintaining skin health.

Alcohol

Has a diuretic effect on the body, using up valuable fluids and causing dehydration as well as dryness.

Coffee, Tea, Cola & Chocolate

All contain caffeine, a stimulant which speed up the body's metabolism and increases nerve and capillary activity. These stimulants have an effect on capillary walls which means individuals who suffer from broken capillaries (couperose skin) and Rosacea (broken capillaries and enlarged pores across nose and cheeks) should avoid these and other stimulants such as hot spicy foods.

Medication & Medical Procedures that can affect the appearance of the skin:

X Rays

Shrink the size of the oil glands for approximately one month, leaving the skin dry and tight.

General Anaesthetic

Dries the skin & remains in the system for many months.

Accutane/Roaccutane

Commonly used to treat ance, this drug dries the skin out severely.

Retin A/Renova

Given for acne, ageing and pigmentation. Causes thinning of the skin as well as drying. Also increases sensitivity to the sun as well as cosmetics ingredients.

Cortisone

With extended use Cortisone can be very ageing, devouring the body's natural collagen. Individuals who have regularly been exposed to steroid creams since childhood often look far older than their years. The skin is usually thickened, very dry & flaky as well as very lined.

Slimming Tablets

Can cause dryness and sensitivity.
